Jack Miller briefly electrified the home crowd by rocketing to the top of the timesheets during the opening practice session of the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Piloting his Pramac Yamaha machine, the Australian standout capitalized on fresh tires in the closing moments of the sunny yet windy morning session to secure provisional top spot.
However, the celebration was cut dramatically short as the local hero immediately lost control of his M1 at the notoriously fast and demanding first corner. The high-speed spill sent shockwaves through the paddock, though the popular rider—making his final premier class appearance at the venue before transitioning to WorldSBK—walked away completely unscathed.
Despite the frightening off-track excursion, the earlier benchmark time was strong enough to keep him competitive, ultimately classifying him in a respectable third position overall. The session itself proved to be a chaotic affair for the entire field under challenging weather conditions at the iconic coastal circuit.

Ducati's reigning champion Marc Marquez ultimately topped the morning running on used rubber, outpacing Trackhouse Aprilia's Raul Fernandez who recovered strongly after an early trip through the gravel and a precautionary medical check on an injured hand.
Further action down the order saw Gresini replacement Iker Lecuona suffer the morning's very first fall, alongside a spectacular engine failure that sidelined KTM's Brad Binder. Meanwhile, Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez stepped in to fill the Pramac seat for the injured Toprak Razgatlioglu, finishing his FP1 in 16th place ahead of the afternoon Practice session.
