Pramac Yamaha team director Gino Borsoi has revealed that the squad had to work hard to convince Toprak Razgatlioglu to end his rookie MotoGP campaign early and undergo essential shoulder surgery. The tough decision came after the triple WorldSBK champion dislocated his right shoulder during final practice at Mandalika, before bravely returning for qualifying and the Sprint race.
Subsequent medical checks upon his return to Europe confirmed that the injury was significantly worse than initially diagnosed, forcing a scheduled surgery in Milan on Monday, 26 October. Borsoi admitted the situation is a heavy blow not only to the garage but to the entire championship and its global fanbase.
For sure, it's not a nice moment, not only for the team, but also for the MotoGP fans and for our sport, Borsoi told MotoGP pit lane reporter Jack Appleyard during FP1 at Phillip Island.

Having Toprak at home is not the best. He is so sad. He tried to convince us to continue - actually, he was the only one convinced to finish the season and do the last five rounds, Borsoi added regarding the rider's relentless determination.
However, the team principal stressed that long-term safety and preparation for the following year took precedence. The right decision for Yamaha, the team and the doctors involved was to make a surgery and be ready for the next season, he explained, warning that avoiding the procedure would risk recurrent dislocations on track.
With Razgatlioglu sidelined, fellow squad member Jack Miller carries single-handed home hopes at Phillip Island amidst rain forecasts, while Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez steps in for the remaining rounds. Read our in-depth analysis and latest paddock updates on Sportrik.
