The Australian Grand Prix stage at the Phillip Island circuit brings an emotional yet major surprise to the international motorcycle racing world. Talented young Australian rider Nikolis has officially received a dream call-up to make his maiden world championship Moto3 debut this weekend. This golden opportunity arrived after he was appointed to fill the vacant seat within the team, replacing a New Zealand rider who was forced to sit out due to fitness issues.

Previously, Cormac Buchanan suffered a severe broken ankle incident back in August at the Aragon circuit. That serious injury forced the New Zealand rider to undergo surgical operations and an extensive recovery process. Although he harbored strong hopes of still competing in front of the Phillip Island home crowd, medical evaluations on Thursday ruled him out as unfit to race.

This tricky situation naturally left deep disappointment for Buchanan, who missed out on a valuable opportunity at his home event. "Tough one to take," Buchanan said expressing his feelings. "After all the hard work to try and make it back, it’s disappointing not to be able to race here at Phillip Island. Being my 'home GP', I really wanted to put on a show for the fans, especially knowing this will be the last time we race here. I’ll keep working hard to get back on track, and in the meantime, I’ll be here supporting the team and helping out wherever I can."

On the other hand, a wide-open door of opportunity swung forward for Nikolis to fulfill his childhood dream of racing in the premier world championship. The 19-year-old teenager admitted he is profoundly grateful for the trust placed in him to perform on home soil. "Beyond grateful to be making my Moto3 World Championship debut this weekend at the Australian GP," Nikolis shared with high enthusiasm. "To make my debut on home soil, as Phillip Island prepares for its final roar, feels like the stars have aligned. I couldn’t have imagined a more special moment. Mixed emotions stepping in for Cormac. Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Nikolis's presence on the Moto3 grid this weekend makes him one of two home riders representing Australia, lining up alongside Joel Kelso. Nikolis's career path shows promising progression, having spent significant time honing his craft aboard Moto3 machinery in the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship with Team Monlau Motu. This weekend marks his second Phillip Island appearance this year for the Canberra-raised rider, having earlier raced in the Kawasaki Supersport class within the Australian Superbike Championship.
