The torrential downpour delayed the session by over an hour, leaving teams stranded. For the dominant Dutchman, however, the stakes were remarkably low heading into the session. Having taken a grid penalty for replacing his power unit, he knew he would be starting Sunday's main race from the very back of the grid regardless of his single-lap pace.
After completing a brief exploratory run in Q1, he spent the rest of the rain delay tucked away safely inside the team garage. In a lighthearted moment with a Viaplay interviewer, the reigning champion even checked on the live score of the Nottingham Forest versus Manchester City fixture. Learning that Forest had extended their lead from 2-1 to 3-1, he playfully teased his press officer Anna, noting that she was far from happy because of her allegiance to City.
Looking ahead to the Grand Prix, the Red Bull star admitted he has no real preference for weather conditions as rain continues to threaten the race day schedule. Although overtaking at Interlagos can prove notoriously tricky due to the limitations of power modes on the straights, his primary objective remains clear: fight through the field and secure valuable championship points.
