Two-time world champion Kalle Rovanpera is set to make his competitive return to the World Rally Championship next season after Toyota confirmed his partial campaign. However, the Finnish star will not contest the full calendar, focusing instead on roughly six to seven selected rallies.
This reduced schedule creates a strategic window for Rovanpera to build a dedicated circuit racing programme alongside his primary rally commitments. He previously explored options in open-wheel machinery, but severe positional vertigo brought on by high G-forces in Japan prematurely halted those specific circuit aspirations.
Fortunately, closed-wheel racing presents a far more manageable physical environment due to significantly lower G-forces, meaning the vertigo issue is unlikely to resurface. This makes touring cars or GT machinery an ideal avenue for his ambitions on tarmac circuits.

"GT racing has always felt very natural to me, and I’ve already done a little of it. I’ve enjoyed it, so that is something I would also like to race in," Rovanpera stated regarding his preferred direction.
With several distinct pathways under consideration, final decisions regarding his secondary motorsport venture are expected to be locked in by December at the latest. This timeline will leave ample room for necessary testing ahead of the upcoming competitive season.
"I don’t have much more to say at this point because nothing is really finalized. We just had some few ideas so far, but I’m sure we will try to do some program there," Rovanpera concluded.
