Hamilton Breaks Silence on Controversial Interlagos Strategy Call

The Formula 1 race weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos once again delivered intense drama for the Scuderia Ferrari camp. The chaotic race held under fluctuating weather conditions heightened the pressure inside the legendary Maranello garage. Lewis Hamilton struggled throughout the Grand Prix and ultimately had to settle for a disappointing ninth-place finish, once again highlighting recurring strategic communication hurdles between the driver and the pit wall.

The delayed strategic call sparked heavy debate across the paddock. The seven-time world champion elected to stay out on track for an extra lap as the asphalt began to trap moisture, causing him to miss the optimal pit window and even suffer a spin on the damp circuit. The British veteran openly addressed the chaotic sequence of events during his media debrief after the chequered flag dropped.

Addressing the radio comms breakdown, the British star explained that the last piece of information relayed to him indicated the rain would remain steady, giving him enough confidence to maintain his pace on track.

"The last information I had was that the rain would remain constant, and in those conditions I felt quite good, I had enough grip and felt like I was recovering," Lewis Hamilton stated. The turning point arrived at the very last corner before the pit lane entry.

"When I reached the final corner just before the pit entry, they asked me to pit, so it was quite difficult at that moment. Then I realized it was raining harder and harder in the first sector and the first half of the lap. If I had known earlier, I would have pitted. Once I arrived at turn one, I realized it was very wet, so I lacked a bit of information," he elaborated.

Despite pointing out the lack of timely updates from the pit wall, the experienced racer shouldered full responsibility for the misjudgment and extended an apology to the entire crew.

"Ultimately the decision was mine and I apologize to the team for that, but as always we must try to improve and grow together," he concluded, emphasizing the need for unity moving forward.
