Ferrari Unveils Major SF-26 Aero Upgrade Package for Austin

Heading into the intense race weekend in Texas, Ferrari has officially introduced a substantial aerodynamic upgrade package for their SF-26 challenger at the Austin Grand Prix. The Maranello-based squad focused on boosting overall downforce and improving vehicle balance without radically altering the core design philosophy established at the start of the season.

The most substantial modifications center around the floor of the SF-26. Adjustments were made to the inlet section while retaining the layout that has influenced competitors like Mercedes and McLaren. The horizontal element connecting the five vertical fences remains in place, accompanied by refined geometries on the innermost vertical partition of the bargeboard to optimize airflow management.

Further updates were applied to the rear section of the car. A brand-new diffuser was introduced, featuring revisions to the flow expansion ramp, vertical fences, and auxiliary appendages on the rear wheel assemblies that interact aerodynamically with the diffuser itself. According to official technical documents submitted to the governing body, these floor updates are engineered to increase both front and rear downforce.

Improving rear-end stability was the primary engineering objective, as the back axle of the SF-26 has previously shown vulnerabilities under traction. By energizing the airflow underneath the car, the Italian outfit aims to deliver a much more stable platform for Charles Leclerc to push the limits throughout the entire race weekend.

Visually, the bodywork received noticeable revisions while maintaining the initial concept. The sidepod air intakes retain their P-shaped contour with an enlarged lower section, while the sidepods are more heavily undercut to channel airflow toward the gearbox and diffuser area. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton quantified the performance gain at less than a tenth of a second per lap, with the team utilizing the opening practice session to run a direct comparison between the old and new aerodynamic configurations.
