Charles Leclerc remained the winner of the British GP 2026 after the Silverstone results were adjusted following a post-race penalty for Carlos Sainz.
Sainz dropped to 17th after receiving a one-lap penalty for incorrectly unlapping himself during the late safety car period. The Williams driver had originally been classified 12th, but the added lap significantly changed his final result.
The stewards’ decision followed Sainz being judged to have breached the procedure while the safety car was on track. The case became part of the wider post-race review at Silverstone, particularly after the closing phase of the race unfolded under neutralised conditions and produced several administrative decisions.

At the front, Leclerc secured an impressive victory for Ferrari after leading the field to the chequered flag behind the safety car. George Russell finished second for Mercedes, while Lewis Hamilton completed the podium in third.
Kimi Antonelli had looked set to challenge strongly for victory as he closed rapidly on Leclerc. However, the Mercedes driver’s chance collapsed after a wheel shield failure cost him time, before he ultimately finished outside the top 10 in the adjusted classification.
The final British GP 2026 result underlined the major impact of safety car procedure, penalties and technical issues on the classification. With Leclerc winning and Sainz falling to P17, Silverstone became one of the races most heavily shaped by post-race changes in this phase of the season.
