Joe Khoury has a big mission for the 2026/2027 season: to reclaim the national title. The former ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series champion will start his journey from Sydney to Alice Springs, a three-day drive, to compete in the double-header weekend held on August 29-30. The bonus points on offer at the opening two rounds are too good to pass up.

"Although it's a three-day drive from Sydney to Alice Springs, the double-header weekend and bonus points will definitely be worth it," Khoury said. Last season, he finished runner-up in Alice Springs, losing to his travel partner and rival, Cheryl 'MsVrod' Beddoes. "I'm hoping to better that this time around," he added.

Khoury plans to contest the full season, pending work commitments, as he looks to add to the national crown he claimed in 2022/23. Central to that push is a fresh combination that stands out: a chrome moly chassis bike powered by a Harley-Davidson V-Rod turbo engine. The package has shown huge potential, even if extracting that performance has come with challenges.

"As most people know, I've been running a new chrome moly chassis bike with a Harley-Davidson V-Rod turbo motor. It has been done before for the street, but putting it down the drag strip is another story. It has been a bit hit and miss with pushing the limits of power and boost, and blowing a lot of stuff up. But when it is on song, it is fast and will top qualify most of the time," Khoury explained.

Despite development setbacks, Joe Khoury still finished third in last season's championship, behind winner Edge Mallis and runner-up Beddoes. That underlines the potential if reliability improves. "Considering I had a few blow-ups and still finished third, it shows we're heading in the right direction," he said.

The upcoming season looks tough. "Edge is running very fast. Cheryl is killing it with every pass. And Jake (Hamilton-Moderate) is getting a handle on his new combination," Khoury said. He also thanked his support crew, including Jimmy from Twin Tune Performance Centre, VP Racing Fuels Australia, Nathan from Connection Concepts, and Sy's Harley-Davidson, for keeping the program on track.

Khoury's drag racing journey spans two decades, having started at street meetings around 20 years ago. Now, with a developing package, he is ready to challenge his rivals and chase a second national title.
