Charles Leclerc has revealed that a combination of data analysis, intuition and feeling with the car was behind his dramatic transformation with Ferrari at the 2026 British Grand Prix.
Leclerc’s weekend initially appeared difficult after he finished only fifth in the Sprint, 12.6 seconds behind winner Kimi Antonelli. The result suggested that the SF-26 set-up did not suit his driving style and was not producing the pace required to challenge at the front.
Leclerc studied the data on Friday night and identified several areas of the set-up that he believed were working against him. Ferrari made changes before main qualifying, and the improvement was immediate as the Monegasque secured second place, only 0.175 seconds behind Antonelli.

“There were a few things I saw in the data on Friday night. I thought those might be areas that did not fit my driving style. We changed those things between the Sprint and qualifying, and it was much better,” Leclerc said.
The revised set-up also increased his confidence in the race. Leclerc made a strong start to take the lead and built an advantage of more than 20 seconds as Antonelli encountered reliability trouble. A late Safety Car caused by Max Verstappen’s crash erased that margin, but Leclerc still held on to win by 0.427 seconds from George Russell.
The result ended Leclerc’s victory drought dating back to the 2024 United States Grand Prix and delivered the ninth win of his Formula 1 career. It also represented a major reversal after he completed the entire 2025 season and the opening eight rounds of 2026 without a victory.
The turnaround carried additional significance because Leclerc arrived at Silverstone 46 points behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton. He had also endured a particularly difficult Canadian Grand Prix, qualifying eighth and finishing well behind Hamilton.
Leclerc stressed that the solution did not emerge from one obvious technical answer. The data provided the initial direction, but the final decision still required the driver to interpret the car’s behaviour and commit to a different set-up approach.
“This kind of change is not really black and white. You do not simply look at the data and immediately know what needs to change. It is intuition mixed with feeling. We went for it, and it proved to be a very successful direction for me,” he added.
The Silverstone victory does not yet confirm that Ferrari has found a permanent solution for every circuit. However, Leclerc’s ability to convert a difficult Sprint performance into a grand prix win showed that his improving understanding of the SF-26 could become increasingly important across the next phase of the season.
