MotoGP title contender Ai Ogura has been ruled out of this weekend's Aragon Grand Prix due to a training injury. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider suffered a fracture near his left thumb that required surgery.
The news is a significant setback for Ogura, who sits second in the championship, 37 points behind leader Jorge Martin. Missing Aragon means he will lose crucial ground in the title race with only ten rounds remaining.
Training Injury and Sudden Surgery
According to an official statement from the Trackhouse team, Ogura sustained the injury while training in Japan. After returning to Europe, further examinations revealed a fracture close to his left thumb, necessitating surgical intervention. This forced him to withdraw from the MotorLand Aragon circuit.
The decision was made at very short notice. Trackhouse had even initially sent out a media schedule including Ogura before announcing his absence on Thursday afternoon. This underscores how quickly the situation developed.
Lorenzo Savadori Steps In
As a replacement, the team has called upon Lorenzo Savadori, Aprilia's test rider with extensive MotoGP experience. Savadori is expected to gather valuable data for the RS-GP's development while maintaining the team's presence in Ogura's absence.
Ogura's absence is a major loss, not only for his team but also for the championship fight. With ten races left, every point counts, and missing a full round could prove decisive.
