Ai Ogura has been forced to sit out the Aragon MotoGP round after sustaining a fracture near his left thumb during a training session in Japan. The Trackhouse rider will undergo surgery on Thursday, as confirmed by his team just hours ago.
The Japanese rookie, who has been one of the most consistent performers this season, returned to Europe hoping to race at the MotorLand circuit. However, medical checks revealed that the injury required surgical intervention, ruling him out of the 13th round of the championship.
Stepping in for Ogura will be Lorenzo Savadori, making his second appearance of the season after a wildcard outing at Jerez. For the Aprilia satellite squad, having an experienced rider like Savadori is valuable, even if he is not expected to challenge at the front.
