Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas admitted that his mind started to play tricks on him during points of his epic 420km bicycle journey from Malaysia down to the race weekend in Singapore. The Cadillac charger embarked on an extraordinary cycling adventure on his push bike from Sepang to clear his head following a tough opening round of the championship.
It took the Finn three days of relentless pedaling to reach Singapore, with the expedition originally starting out as something of a lighthearted joke between himself and his partner. As a keen gravel cycling enthusiast, Bottas carefully planned his route so that his highest-mileage days fell on Monday and Tuesday, ensuring his physical condition remained optimal ahead of Friday practice sessions.
The absolute highlight of the grueling trip involved navigating the dense Malaysian rainforest after sunset under complete darkness. Bottas confessed that tackling the jungle trails at night brought an intense psychological challenge. "The wildest part was riding at night in the jungle," he told reporters in Singapore, as reported by Crash.net.

Describing the eerie atmosphere, the veteran racer noted how the ambient sounds tested his nerves in the middle of nowhere. "The noise in there is like... your mind starts to play games. Who knows what is out there, but then you just need to crack on and keep going. Riding with your lights at night, that was probably the most epic part in the forest. I've never really done that before. So the first part was a bit stressful," he explained.
Throughout the demanding trek across Southeast Asia, Bottas encountered various local wildlife including snakes, lizards, and cows, though none of the fauna caused any disruptions to his progress. The physical endeavor served as a deliberate mental reset following a difficult weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix where he failed to see the checkered flag.
Bottas was forced into retirement during the race, while his teammate Sergio Perez could only manage a 19th-place finish. Currently, Cadillac remains the sole constructor on the grid yet to score championship points this season, with Bottas and Perez sitting alongside Aston Martin's Lance Stroll as the only drivers without a score.
