Leclerc Highlights Ferrari Pure Performance Issues in F1

Ahead of the Formula 1 race weekend in Singapore, Charles Leclerc shared his thoughts regarding Ferrari's ongoing struggle with pure pace and performance. The Monegasque driver arrives following a sequence of three consecutive fourth-place finishes in previous rounds, aiming to fight back onto the podium at one of his absolute favorite street circuits on the calendar.

The past statistics of Charles Leclerc at the Asian venue highlight two pole positions and strong points finishes in previous editions. Speaking to media members gathered in the paddock, he openly expressed his fondness for the challenging layout. “This track particularly appeals to me, in fact, it is one of my absolute favorites of the entire season,” he explained regarding his enthusiasm for the weekend ahead.

Despite promising signs, Ferrari supporters have learned to manage expectations regarding Friday practice sessions, as rival teams traditionally find an extra gear when it matters most in qualifying. Charles Leclerc acknowledged this trend by noting the differing run profiles utilized by Maranello during the opening sessions of the weekend.

“Often we are fast on Friday because we work with a different engine configuration compared to our opponents. The fact that we are immediately well-balanced is a strong point of ours that could help us ahead of qualifying and the Sprint. It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to win,” stated Charles Leclerc, emphasizing the importance of initial car balance.

To prepare for the demanding weekend format, the team relied heavily on their factory simulator setup. According to reports from FormulaPassion, Charles Leclerc praised the strong correlation between virtual data and on-track reality. “We are working very well in the simulator. Recently the correlation is very strong, which helps us arrive at the track with an immediately competitive car,” he noted.

Nevertheless, the Scuderia driver remains realistic about their overall competitive deficit in pure performance terms. “When Qualifying arrives, our opponents have something extra that we currently do not have. The pure potential of our single-seater is not at the level of our main rivals. The pure performance of the car in the recent GPs has been quite disappointing compared to that of our opponents,” he concluded.
