MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing has identified key areas where he lost out to Alex Marquez during the 2026 Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
Bezzecchi finished second after being unable to match the pace of Marquez, who dominated the race by leading almost the entire distance after making early overtakes.
The Italian moved into second place after Marc Marquez crashed on lap two, but could not close the gap and eventually finished more than two seconds behind.

“He was very quick, especially in the fast and flowing sections – sector three and sector four. But overall, he was strong everywhere,” said Bezzecchi.
He admitted that he recognised Marquez’s race-winning potential early on, particularly after observing his performance through key corners.
“When he passed me at turn nine and I saw how he did turn ten, I immediately thought he was going to win,” he added.
Bezzecchi explained that although he tried to stay within range, Marquez’s pace and consistency made it impossible to maintain the fight.
“I tried to stay with him, but it was not possible. He was riding perfectly,” he said.
Despite missing out on victory, Bezzecchi expressed satisfaction with second place, considering the strength of his rival on the day.
“I’m satisfied because it wasn’t easy to have a good race with Alex being so strong. This was the maximum I could achieve today,” he noted.
He also highlighted the importance of the post-race test at Jerez, where Aprilia plans to evaluate multiple updates to improve performance.
“We have many items to try. The factory has been working very hard, so we need to make the most of this test,” he concluded.
The result allows Bezzecchi to maintain his position at the top of the championship standings, with attention now turning to further development ahead of the next round at Le Mans.
