The seventh round of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship takes place at the iconic Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello from May 29-31. The Italian Grand Prix arrives at a crucial stage of the season, with the title battle intensifying and Marc Marquez preparing for a potential return following his injury absence.
Marco Bezzecchi heads to Mugello as the championship leader after extending his advantage during the Catalan Grand Prix. The Aprilia Racing rider arrives on home soil with a 15-point cushion at the top of the standings and will be aiming to strengthen his title credentials in front of Italian fans.
The biggest storyline of the weekend surrounds Marc Marquez, whose name has been confirmed on the provisional entry list after missing the previous two rounds. The reigning world champion suffered foot fractures in a Sprint Race crash at Le Mans before also undergoing shoulder surgery. While his return has now been confirmed by his team, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider must still pass the mandatory medical assessment before being cleared to ride.

For Ducati, Mugello remains one of the most significant events on the calendar. The Bologna manufacturer has won each of the last four Italian Grand Prix races, with Francesco Bagnaia securing victories from 2022 through 2024 before Marquez continued the streak last season. That record places Ducati among the clear favourites once again as the championship returns to Tuscany.
Honda enters the weekend encouraged by its recent progress. Joan Mir crossed the finish line in second place in Catalunya before a post-race tyre pressure penalty dropped him down the order. Nevertheless, the RC213V showed improved competitiveness, providing optimism that Honda can challenge closer to the front despite Mugello traditionally being a difficult circuit for the Japanese manufacturer.
Yamaha is also looking to build on encouraging developments from the Catalunya post-race test. Toprak Razgatlioglu reported improvements in corner-entry performance and turning characteristics with Yamaha's latest package, although the Turkish rider continues to work on extracting maximum performance from Michelin's soft tyre during qualifying simulations.
The Italian Grand Prix will also take place with several notable absences. Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco remain sidelined following injuries sustained in Catalunya, forcing their respective teams to evaluate replacement options. Their absence could further influence the championship picture as the season approaches its midway point.
With the title fight tightening, Marc Marquez's anticipated comeback, and immense pressure on Ducati and Aprilia at home, Mugello is shaping up to be one of the defining events of the 2026 MotoGP campaign.
