Max Verstappen has praised the willingness of the FIA and Formula 1 to listen to driver concerns after several adjustments were agreed to the sport's future power unit regulations.

The four-time world champion was one of the most vocal critics of the new engine rules and previously suggested that the direction of the regulations could influence his long-term future in Formula 1 if concerns were not addressed.

Among the key issues raised by drivers were the effects of super-clipping and the heavy reliance on electrical power created by the planned 50:50 split between the internal combustion engine and battery systems. Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, Formula 1 and the FIA introduced measures aimed at reducing those concerns.

Further discussions subsequently led to additional changes. From 2027, the contribution of the internal combustion engine will increase through higher fuel flow before the power distribution shifts to a 60:40 ratio in favor of the ICE by 2028.

"I'm very happy. At the beginning of the year there were a few meetings with FOM and, of course, with the FIA together with the other drivers. It's great that they're open-minded and they listen to the drivers."

Verstappen believes the majority of drivers are motivated by the desire to improve the sport rather than pursuing individual advantages, making constructive dialogue essential for Formula 1's future.

"I think most of us speak in the interest of the sport. We just want to make it a better product. That's why you come up with recommendations and try to do what you believe is the right thing."

The Dutchman also acknowledged that his success in Formula 1 may give him a stronger voice in major discussions. However, he stressed that the positive outcome was only possible because both the FIA and Formula 1 were prepared to consider feedback from those competing on track.

The agreed regulatory changes represent an important step toward Formula 1's next technical era. By finding common ground between drivers, the FIA and commercial stakeholders, the championship hopes to deliver a package that remains competitive while preserving the quality of racing in the years ahead.
