Yuki Tsunoda could be the next Formula 1 star to make the jump to IndyCar, with Meyer Shank Racing reportedly eyeing the Japanese driver for the 2027 season. The news has sent ripples through the paddock, as Tsunoda has been a mainstay in F1 with Red Bull since 2021.

Meyer Shank's interest makes sense, given Tsunoda's ties to Honda, a manufacturer with deep roots in IndyCar. He even tested a Chip Ganassi Racing car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2024, gaining valuable experience with the heavier, more physical machinery. That test may have planted a seed for a future move.

The seat in question is the #66 entry, which will be vacated when Marcus Armstrong moves to the #60 car. That opens a door for Tsunoda to join a growing list of F1 alumni in IndyCar, including Fernando Alonso and fellow countryman Takuma Sato, a two-time Indy 500 winner.

Tsunoda's Cautious Optimism

Despite the speculation, Tsunoda remains measured about the prospect. After his Las Vegas test, he admitted to enjoying the American vibe but expressed concerns about the physical demands and safety. "If I have an opportunity and I feel it's the right time, for sure I would love to. I like the US itself, so I don't mind living here. But I can't imagine driving at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, more than a two-hour race and doing more than 200 mph every lap. For me, it's scary," he said.

His comments suggest a move isn't imminent, but the door isn't closed either. Meyer Shank, meanwhile, is "looking at all kinds of options," and while they haven't confirmed talks, the mere link to Tsunoda adds intrigue to the 2027 silly season. If the deal materializes, it would be a major coup for IndyCar and a significant shift for Tsunoda's career.

For Red Bull, losing Tsunoda would mean finding a new driver, while Honda could see this as a strategic move to develop Japanese talent in a competitive series. With the 2027 season still years away, the rumor mill is already churning, and all eyes will be on Tsunoda's next move.
