Pol Espargaro has raised concerns over the impact of MotoGP's 2027 regulation changes. The KTM test rider warns the new rules could completely alter the competitive landscape in the premier class.
Starting in 2027, MotoGP enters a new era with engine capacity reduced to 850cc. Additionally, ride-height devices will be banned, and tyre supplier will switch from Michelin to Pirelli.
According to Espargaro, this combination of technical changes has huge potential for surprises. Struggling riders this season could suddenly become competitive, while dominant ones might fall back.

"It's a different world. Next year it can happen that riders who are not performing this year are going to be super fast," he said. "And the opposite, riders that are super quick this year are not going to perform next year."
Espargaro emphasized that major changes to the bikes and tyres will force a very different riding style. He even believes the 2027 machinery, as it stands now, is closer to a Moto2 bike than the current MotoGP prototype.
"It's going to be difficult for the riders that are currently in the MotoGP category to adapt after many years with the Michelin," he explained. "The riders that are going to jump from Moto2 are going to have a big advantage at the beginning because of the way of riding."
Pirelli already supplies tyres for Moto2 and WorldSBK, so the five riders expected to step up to MotoGP in 2027 are believed to be better prepared. However, the adaptation of current MotoGP riders remains an intriguing challenge.
