The season finale of the IDM championship at the Hockenheimring marked the end of an era as Tom Eder announced the permanent closure of his IDM Supersport racing team. Following the traditional paddock celebrations, the 41-year-old team boss packed up his equipment for the final time in this capacity, citing insurmountable financial pressures and a severe lack of personal time to manage his diverse professional commitments.

Eder originally established the team back in 2021 to support Austrian rider Thomas Gradinger in the Supersport class. What started merely as a fun wildcard venture quickly transformed into a serious operation following a controversial refueling penalty on the starting grid. Fueled by determination and competitive spirit, Eder invested heavily in professional infrastructure, purchasing heavy trucks, sophisticated garage setups, and dyno equipment to run a top-tier operation.

However, sustaining a competitive motorsport structure without a major title sponsor proved to be an overwhelming financial burden. Eder openly admitted to burning through substantial personal funds over the years. Coupled with the demanding demands of running his private company and organizing trackdays, the logistical nightmare ultimately forced him to reevaluate his priorities and step away from team ownership.

Emotional factors also heavily influenced his departure, particularly following the tragic and untimely passing of his friend and former rider Philipp Steinmayr. Although Eder extended his team's presence for another year alongside the Feigl brothers, the decision to pull the plug had already taken root in his mind.

Despite closing down his Supersport outfit, Eder will not completely vanish from the motorsport paddock. He intends to remain involved in the sidecar racing scene, maintaining his passion for competition on three wheels. While he will deeply miss the unique camaraderie within the IDM paddock, stepping back remains a necessary chapter for his future.
