The number of young victims losing their lives due to negligence inside motor vehicles has reached an alarming milestone throughout 2025, recording 33 children between the ages of zero and fourteen who never returned home safely, representing an increase of four victims compared to the previous year. This grim reality unfolds within the most familiar yet dangerously distracted environment possible, inside private car cabins where adults argue about winter jackets, worry about being late, or treat certified child safety seats as merely an optional inconvenience along the road.
In response to this escalating crisis, Unasca has officially introduced the third Child Car Safety Week during an institutional presentation held at the Matteotti Room within the Chamber of Deputies. The high-profile event gathered key government ministers, the Vice President of the Chamber, and ANCI representatives to emphasize a unified serious commitment toward reversing these fatality statistics. Scheduled from November 2 through 8, driving schools nationwide will conduct practical demonstrations, engage directly with parents and grandparents, and meticulously instruct caregivers on how to properly secure child restraint systems.
During the official briefing, Unasca secretary Alfredo Boenzi emphasized that true vehicular safety cannot rely solely on punitive fines, but must instead be cultivated through genuine public awareness and responsibility. Unfortunately, public safety consciousness often functions as a perishable commodity that fades away quickly after promotional campaigns end, leading drivers to neglect proper seating because of short trips, crying toddlers, or misplaced overconfidence in their driving skills.

This dedicated awareness week aims to provide hands-on guidance regarding genuine certified safety seats rather than misleading commercial alternatives, demonstrating proper positioning, tightening techniques, and correct selection based on specific age and weight brackets. For once, driving schools are shifting their educational focus beyond standard license acquisition tests, directly addressing drivers who have held licenses for decades yet routinely ignore foundational safety protocols.
Concluding the advocacy efforts, the overarching objective remains absolute and uncompromising: zero deaths and zero injuries on the road. Every single child fatality inside an automobile highlights a moment when an adult temporarily failed in their primary duty of protection, serving as a stark reminder that vigilance behind the wheel is a non-negotiable responsibility for all motorists.
