The Supercars championship is facing a notable technical hurdle regarding braking performance as the paddock prepares for the upcoming Gold Coast 500 event next weekend. Teams initially flagged serious concerns during the Queensland Raceway weekend and official test day in August, when brake pads supplied by control vendor Ferodo were reported to be falling apart under heavy racing loads.

This prompted an emergency manufacturing response from the Italian factory to build and dispatch fresh batches ahead of The Bend, though logistical bottlenecks meant only a fraction of the stock arrived in time. While catastrophic failures were successfully avoided at Bathurst, the overall effectiveness and reliability of the braking compounds remained a persistent complaint among team principals and engineers throughout the paddock.

The frustration culminated when Grove Racing CEO Brenton Grove openly labeled the ongoing situation a joke during a mid-race broadcast interview. Providing further context on the matter, Jones broke down the technical difficulties via his team's latest digital content release, detailing the frantic efforts behind the scenes to rectify the compound issues.

According to updates shared from the manufacturer side, Ferodo and Comp Friction have been working tirelessly to stabilize material consistency by producing smaller batch sizes and shipping them directly to teams on tight schedules. However, a primary operational problem remains the aggressive wear rate, where the pads taper down significantly and fail to deliver the same braking capacity and pedal feel as they do in brand-new condition.

With tension mounting ahead of the street circuit challenge, category officials and teams are widely expected to revert to a previously utilized, more reliable compound for the upcoming Gold Coast 500 to ensure maximum safety and competitive fairness.
