An unusual issue unfolded toward the end of SQ1 in Formula 1 when the timing boards failed to register correct information as the drivers crossed the line. This technical glitch sparked immediate uncertainty across the paddock and team garages, creating an unclear picture regarding who had actually progressed into the second part of the session and who was knocked out of the running.
The confusing scenario lasted for several minutes before the timing boards suddenly updated, causing a considerable delay in confirming the official elimination order. Consequently, the start of SQ2 was pushed back, eventually getting underway nearly 20 minutes after the chequered flag had waved to conclude the frantic SQ1 session.
The FIA released an official statement to address the growing speculation, confirming that the start of SQ2 was delayed due to an issue with timing systems where some lap times had not been registered correctly on the main displays.

However, governing body officials assured everyone that the problem had now been resolved and the current timings were considered completely accurate. "While the session was able to resume, the FIA had cast doubt on that possibility, ending its statement with the note that they were actively investigating whether they could proceed with the rest of the session," according to updates from the circuit control room.
Tensions in the pit lane finally eased once the pit exit opened for SQ2, bringing a temporary end to a bizarre administrative and technical drama. The timing malfunction serves as a stark reminder of the critical reliance on digital infrastructure during high-stakes competitive racing weekends.
