The Singapore Grand Prix weekend immediately brought intense drama to the Mercedes garage as the Brackley-based squad opted for a split development strategy across their cars. This tactical choice aimed to gather crucial data on their latest aerodynamic packages, creating a stark contrast in performance and handling characteristics between the two drivers around the challenging Marina Bay Street Circuit.

According to reports from Crash.net, Kimi Antonelli was forced to admit that his car feels 'very unpredictable' after struggling to match the pace required at the sharp end of the grid. The young Italian continued running the new upgrade package introduced in Malaysia, while his teammate reverted to the older specification previously used at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in search of immediate mechanical stability.

The performance delta became glaringly obvious during the sprint qualifying session on Friday. Antonelli struggled to extract maximum grip and balance, leaving him down in seventh place on the starting grid for the Saturday sprint race. Meanwhile, his teammate mastered the machinery to secure an impressive front-row start in second place, leaving the engineering crew with plenty of homework overnight.

"Already in FP1, I was struggling; there is still a lot to understand about this package," Antonelli remarked after stepping out of the cockpit. He highlighted the severe difficulties in finding a consistent rhythm around the tight, twisty walls of the venue, noting how unpredictable the rear stability felt throughout the complex braking zones.

"Really, the car is very difficult, very unpredictable, and very difficult to put a lap together. It's a shame because I was coming with high hopes, but so far it's been very difficult," the rookie explained, maintaining a realistic outlook ahead of the remaining sessions as the team works tirelessly to unlock performance.
