Senna Agius, the emerging Australian talent set to step up to MotoGP next season, has named Casey Stoner as his idol and mentor. In an exclusive interview with SPEEDWEEK.com, Agius had no hesitation in pointing to Stoner as the most influential figure in his career.
It is not just Stoner's proven abilities on track, but also his personality and the way he navigates the complex world of motorsport. “Yes, Casey is my role model,” Agius affirmed. This admiration is rooted in Stoner's remarkable achievements, particularly his debut season with Ducati in 2007, when he clinched the world title immediately.
Stoner retired from MotoGP at the end of 2012, aged just 27, with two world titles to his name. However, it is the 2007 moment that left a lasting impression on Agius. “He took a project that shouldn't have been competitive to a world championship. That shows incredible mental strength and exceptional ability,” Agius said.

Now, their relationship has evolved. Stoner has become an advisor in the paddock, and Agius admits to learning a lot from him. One quality he particularly admires is Stoner's observational skill. “He watches everything very carefully. He's not the type to constantly say what he thinks. But when he does speak, it's worth its weight in gold,” Agius explained.
For Agius, every piece of advice from Stoner carries extra weight because it comes from someone who carefully chooses when to speak. “I get the feeling Casey is someone who always watches everything, but he's very careful about when to say something. And precisely because of that, every comment of his is special,” concluded the future MotoGP rookie.
