Bulega Replaces Pirro in 2027 MotoGP Test, Inches Closer to MotoGP

Nicolo Bulega will get another shot on Ducati's 2027-spec 850cc MotoGP machine, stepping in for the injured Michele Pirro at a private test in Misano on August 25-26. This is more than a one-off duty; it's a concrete step toward his future in the premier class.

The 2027 regulation overhaul is a massive task for every manufacturer. Engines shrink from 1000cc to 850cc, ride-height devices and extreme aero are banned, and fuel must be 100% non-fossil. Add Pirelli replacing Michelin as the sole tire supplier, and development teams are under immense pressure.

That's where Nicolo Bulega becomes vital. The Italian is already used to Pirelli tires from WorldSBK, giving Ducati a valuable edge in developing a bike that must work well with the new rubber.

Bulega's involvement was part of his Ducati contract signed in May 2025, which included five MotoGP tests this year while he focuses on WorldSBK with Aruba.it Racing. However, Pirro's injury has expanded his role. After Misano, he's scheduled for Barcelona (Sept 9), Mugello (Sept 15-16), and Jerez (Oct 7-8).

Bulega currently leads the 2026 WorldSBK standings comfortably, but there's a calendar clash: the Jerez test falls just before the season finale at the same circuit on October 16-18. Still, this opportunity accelerates his adaptation before he officially moves to MotoGP with VR46 in 2027.

Ducati is locked in a tight development battle with Yamaha in the 850cc class. Yamaha already tested at Jerez in late July and will be back at Misano with Augusto Fernandez and Andrea Dovizioso. The race to build the best new-generation bike is fierce and will shape the 2027 pecking order.

For Bulega, every lap on the 850cc machine is an investment. He's not just helping Ducati; he's preparing himself for the biggest challenge of his career: racing in MotoGP. If all goes well, we'll see him battling the legends of the premier class from next year.
