The premier class battle at the Lusail International Circuit delivered fierce drama as Raul Fernandez secured a hard-fought third-place finish in the main MotoGP Qatar grand prix. Starting from fourth on the grid, the Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider maintained a strong pace throughout the early stages, running right behind race winner and fellow Aprilia stablemate Marco Bezzecchi. However, late race fuel management limitations ultimately forced him to yield second position to championship leader Marc Marquez in the closing laps.

As the race progressed under the lights, fuel consumption proved to be an even more critical limiting factor than tire degradation at the Qatari venue. Fernandez admitted that he struggled to maintain his optimum rhythm after having to switch to a leaner engine mapping mode to ensure he crossed the finish line safely.

"I tried to push and wanted to stay behind Marco. But here, fuel consumption is even more critical than tire wear," Fernandez explained, as reported by Speedweek. "I tried my best, but I didn't really manage the situation well. By the sixth or seventh lap, I was running on map three regarding fuel, so the bike didn't have full power."

The Spaniard's achievement is all the more remarkable considering he missed the previous two rounds due to a broken finger. He was quick to credit the medical staff and physiotherapists who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get him fit enough to compete this weekend.

"I am super happy to take another podium. Recently I had many problems with my finger. I don't feel 100 percent comfortable yet, but thanks to the physiotherapists I was able to be here at all," he added.

In the cool-down room after the checkered flag, both podium contenders marveled at the sheer straight-line speed of the Ducati machines. Meanwhile, the Lusail circuit officially set a weekend attendance record with 55,000 fans packing the grandstands throughout the event.
