The Scandinavian event once again served as a technical benchmark under the regulatory framework of the FIA. Rally1 machinery exceeded 190 km/h on compacted ice, relying on hundreds of seven-millimetre steel studs embedded in dedicated winter tyres. Centre differential calibration, torque distribution mapping and suspension geometry were precisely tuned to maintain lateral stability through narrow frozen forest sections.
Evans maximised his road position strategy to limit the impact of loose surface snow on the opening stages, a factor that frequently determines decisive time gaps. Toyota’s more assertive torque deployment delivered strong traction on corner exit, while sustained pressure came from Thierry Neuville leading the charge for Hyundai Motorsport, whose set-up philosophy prioritised initial grip and progressive throttle response.
The performance contrast highlighted the distinct technical identities of Toyota and Hyundai. Toyota focused on high-speed stability across extended straights, whereas Hyundai aimed to optimise rotation in slower snow-laden corners. Communication between driver and co-driver remained critical as visibility dropped during late-afternoon stages.
“The grip changes constantly on ice. You must read the surface every kilometre and adapt immediately,” said Elfyn Evans in the team’s official statement.
From a managerial standpoint, leadership from Jari-Matti Latvala at Toyota and strategic direction from Cyril Abiteboul at Hyundai played a defining role in set-up decisions and risk management throughout the weekend. The integration of technical precision and organisational execution underlined the competitive intensity of the event.
The Swedish outcome tightened both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ standings in the 2026 campaign, reinforcing winter rallying as one of the championship’s most technically demanding variables.
