WRC star Elfyn Evans has been celebrated as the first Welsh world rally champion in history during a grand homecoming event. The landmark achievement was warmly commemorated by enthusiastic fans, close friends, and local communities who have stood firmly behind his journey from the traditional heartlands of rallying all the way to the absolute summit of global motorsport.
According to RallyJournal, various local and governmental institutions reached out almost immediately after he successfully secured the championship crown in Sardinia, eager to organize fitting celebrations for the historic milestone.
"The local council and my home village wanted to organise something. We were also contacted by the Welsh Parliament, asking whether we could arrange something," explained Elfyn Evans regarding the initial plans.
The celebration reached a whole new level when logistical arrangements aligned to bring his actual championship-winning machine directly to the fans in Wales, thanks to the vehicle being in Europe for prior commitments earlier that week.
"In the end, we had the opportunity to bring the car along as well. It was in Europe this week for other reasons, so we were able to put everything needed in place for the event," he added.
The newly crowned title holder admitted feeling deeply moved by the overwhelming amount of effort, love, and attention poured into the homecoming festivities by the entire community and his dedicated supporters.
"I am truly touched by how much effort everyone has put into making this happen. It was obviously great that we could have the car at the event. I also have to thank the team for making all of this possible," the driver representing Toyota stated.
To cap off the unforgettable gathering, the star driver rewarded the ecstatic home crowd by unleashing the ferocious sound of the GR Yaris Rally1, performing breathtaking doughnuts that were proudly shared by the manufacturer across their official social media channels.
