Pirelli concluded its two-day Formula 1 tyre test at Imola, accumulating a total of 400 laps. The second day saw Ferrari and Racing Bulls take to the track, with Antonio Giovinazzi driving for the Maranello squad, while Racing Bulls fielded their regular drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad.
Lindblad and Lawson in Action
Arvid Lindblad set the fastest time of the day with a 1:18.454 after completing 73 laps (358 km). His teammate, Liam Lawson, was just 27 milliseconds slower (1:18.471) after 65 laps (319 km). Notably, Lawson tested the C3 and C4 compounds, while Lindblad focused on the C5. This compound variation is part of Pirelli's efforts to gather data for the 2027 tyre regulations.
Giovinazzi Busiest Driver
Antonio Giovinazzi was the busiest driver on day two. He piloted the Ferrari for 135 laps, covering 663 km, with a best time of 1:19.894. His entire programme centred on the C3 compound, combining time attacks and long runs. This was a valuable opportunity for Giovinazzi to return to an F1 car while assisting Ferrari and Pirelli in data collection.
400 Laps Total and Hot Conditions
Combined with day one, which featured Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc (127 laps), Pirelli gathered data from 400 laps, equivalent to 1,963 km. The test took place in extremely hot conditions, with track temperatures reaching 49°C and air temperature at 31°C. The heat at Imola posed a challenge in evaluating tyre degradation and performance.
Next Stop Magny-Cours
The tyre development programme will continue in mid-October at the Magny-Cours circuit in France. The focus will be on wet-weather tyres. Thanks to the track's artificial irrigation system, Pirelli can test and evaluate specific solutions for rain conditions. This is a crucial step in preparing better tyres for the 2027 season.
With the data collected, Pirelli aims to design tyres that are not only fast but also durable and safe in various conditions. Collaboration with F1 teams like Ferrari and Racing Bulls is key to success.
