Pecco Bagnaia Urges Rider Unity After Phillip Island Meeting

Italian star Pecco Bagnaia has firmly stated that the time has arrived for the entire Grand Prix grid to unite and defend their collective interests within the premier class championship. The assertion came in the wake of a crucial meeting held during the race weekend in Australia, where riders seriously discussed reviving plans to establish an independent association aimed at giving them a stronger voice regarding safety and regulations.

The concept of creating an official riders' union is not entirely new to the paddock. A similar initiative was initially launched back in the 2023 season, but unforeseen circumstances forced the project to be put on hold. Now, shifting dynamics and concerns within the racing community have made it imperative for the competitors to restart the initiative so their grievances are no longer sidelined by decision-makers.

According to the marquee Ducati rider, the primary objective of forming this alliance centers strictly around on-track safety. Growing anxieties regarding punishing calendar schedules and the selection of specific grand prix venues have heightened the urgency for riders to establish a unified front to protect their well-being throughout an increasingly grueling global season.

"Creo que la unidad y una asociacion de pilotos son algo importante. Habiamos empezado a abordar este asunto en 2023, pero por causas de fuerza mayor no pudimos continuar. Era el momento justo para volver a empezar. Creo que es importante para protegernos mejor y tener mas voz en determinadas decisiones," Bagnaia explained, emphasizing the necessity of solidifying their stance moving forward.

Looking ahead, the next vital step for the competitors will involve appointing an impartial representative who operates completely free from paddock politics. Finding an outsider to act as their dedicated spokesperson will ensure that negotiations remain entirely transparent and focused squarely on the protection and safety of the athletes.
