Lando Norris proved he's the man to beat at Zandvoort once again, snatching pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix in a nail-biting qualifying session. The McLaren driver's 1m11.163s lap in Q3 was enough to edge out sprint race winner George Russell by just over a tenth of a second.
The tension peaked in the final minutes of Q3. Norris and Russell were among the first to complete their last flying laps, anticipating rain that was threatening to arrive. Their gamble paid off. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who left their runs later, had to settle for fifth and sixth, with Hamilton managing to jump Leclerc in the closing moments.
Behind the leading duo, Kimi Antonelli delivered another impressive performance for Mercedes, securing third place just 0.031s behind Russell. Oscar Piastri had to concede to his fellow rookie, ending up fourth, a second and a half adrift of his McLaren teammate.

Max Verstappen, racing in front of his home crowd, could only manage seventh for Red Bull. Stand-in teammate Liam Lawson did a solid job to qualify eighth, just over a tenth of a second behind. Gabriel Bortoleto led the midfield charge for Audi in ninth, ahead of Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad in tenth.
It was a day to forget for Pierre Gasly. After being the top midfield runner in sprint qualifying and the sprint race, the Alpine driver with the upgraded package struggled in Q2 and was eliminated in 11th. Yuki Tsunoda, Lindblad's teammate, was 12th, followed by Nico Hulkenberg's Audi and Franco Colapinto in the older-spec Alpine.
The intra-team battle at Williams also caught the eye. Alex Albon made it five consecutive qualifying victories over teammate Carlos Sainz, advancing to Q2 while Sainz was knocked out in 17th. Albon ended up 16th as the slowest in Q2, half a tenth behind Esteban Ocon's Haas.
Q1 brought its own drama. The upgraded Aston Martin with the Honda engine showed better pace than in sprint qualifying, with Fernando Alonso briefly running 12th. But he couldn't improve on his final lap and was eliminated in 18th, just ahead of teammate Lance Stroll. Ollie Bearman had his worst qualifying of the year in 20th, ahead of the two Cadillacs led by Valtteri Bottas for the fifth straight session.
