This decision forced teams to rethink strategies. Drivers like Scott McLaughlin and Alex Palou had to adjust, as track conditions remained tricky. McLaughlin was quickest in qualifying but a penalty for an engine change dropped him down the order. Palou, the championship leader, faces an uphill climb to secure points.
Early Race Drama
As the lights went out, O'Ward charged ahead, battling Josef Newgarden while Felix Rosenqvist made a strong move to third. Palou slowly worked into the top ten, but Kyle Kirkwood struggled and fell behind.
By lap 20, Rosenqvist showed his pace, passing Newgarden to take the lead from O'Ward. Pit stops began to shuffle the order, with Kirkwood pitting first on lap 44. Palou followed seven laps later but lost positions. O'Ward regained the lead, chased by Rosenqvist and Alexander Rossi, who pulled off a brilliant undercut to claim a podium spot.
A caution on lap 64 brought rain, and Palou opted for a second stop. But the rain intensified, leading to a red flag on lap 91. Drying attempts failed, and the postponement was announced.
