Young racer Josh Pierson has officially earned approval from the NTT IndyCar Series to pursue a competitive seat in top-tier open-wheel machinery. This confirmation arrives following a successful evaluation test conducted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course under the watchful eyes of series officials.
Under strict licensing standards introduced earlier this year, drivers lacking prior top-level experience or standout feeder series dominance must clear a dedicated evaluation process. This rule ensures that only capable competitors meet the rigorous demands of America's premier single-seater championship before stepping onto the grid.
The 20-year-old recently concluded his fourth campaign in IndyNXT, highlighted by a breakthrough victory at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. That performance granted him eligibility for the official licensing evaluation, where he was closely monitored by series officiating and former driver Davey Hamilton.

Series officials confirmed that the young talent successfully satisfied all required performance metrics. "Pierson was deemed to have satisfied performance requirements based on criteria such as car control, pace, consistency and communication," the official statement noted regarding his on-track assessment.
While an official team announcement regarding his upcoming race seat remains pending, strong paddock rumors strongly link him to AJ Foyt Racing. Fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation on whether this milestone evaluation will translate into a full-time drive for the next championship campaign.
