A heartbreaking tactical failure crushed Anton De Pasquale and co-driver Lee Holdsworth as victory at Australia's greatest race was cruelly denied by an under-filled fuel tank in the closing stages.
The car slowed dramatically approaching Griffins Bend with less than a lap remaining, allowing Brodie Kostecki and Dick Johnson Racing co-driver Todd Hazelwood to snatch a stunning victory.
Intense criticism has since been directed at Team 18 following the brutal blunder. Team owner Charlie Schwerkolt admitted that the issue stemmed from a malfunction within the team's fuel strategy software.

However, that explanation drew fierce condemnation from motorsport great Mark Skaife. Speaking on Fox Sports' MotorRacing 360, he argued that far more preparation should have gone into the final pit stop calculation.
"It's horrible, but it's unforgivable. It's Australia's biggest car race," Skaife stated. "At your last stop, you have to put the right amount of fuel in. That's just fundamental, and you have to make it so that you can sprint to the end."
