Max Verstappen Extends Red Bull Contract Until 2030, Ending Speculation

Max Verstappen has officially signed a long-term contract extension with Red Bull that will keep him at the team until the end of the 2030 season. This decision puts an end to months of speculation about the Dutch driver's future, especially after reports emerged that he had held talks with McLaren earlier this year.

The previous deal was due to expire in 2028, but the new agreement ensures Verstappen will remain at the Milton Keynes-based squad until he turns 33. This announcement also all but confirms that there will be no major driver reshuffles among the top four teams — Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull — for the 2027 season.

Verstappen, currently sixth in the Drivers' Championship and 110 points behind Kimi Antonelli, expressed his delight over the extension. "I am really pleased with the contract extension. We have the best people and I'm excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again," he said ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix.

The decision is rooted in Verstappen's belief in the team's vision under team principal Laurent Mekies. "Getting to work with Laurent now for over a year has also been great, I see a clear vision he has for the team. Everyone in Milton Keynes believes in what we are building," he added.

Speculation about Verstappen's future had intensified throughout the season. His dissatisfaction with the 2026 power unit regulations initially made him question his future in F1. However, the subsequent regulation tweaks and Red Bull's steady performance improvements are believed to have been key factors in convincing him to stay.

Laurent Mekies welcomed the decision. "Retaining Max, the best driver on the grid, is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as F1 and motorsport as a whole," Mekies said. "This relationship has proven to be one of Formula 1's greatest success stories, and we are not done yet. There are more races to win, more milestones to achieve, and more history to write."

With this new contract, Verstappen demonstrates his long-term commitment to the team that has nurtured his career since 2016. This decision also signals Red Bull's confidence in returning to championship contention under the new regulations, despite currently trailing their main rivals.
