Max Verstappen has officially signed a contract extension with Red Bull Racing that will keep him at the team until the end of Formula 1's current regulations era in 2030. The decision puts an end to wild speculation about a potential move to Mercedes or McLaren next season.
The news was confirmed on Thursday morning, marking a significant early victory for new Red Bull team principal, Laurent Mekies. Since taking over in 2025, Mekies has faced immense pressure following the departures of key figures such as Adrian Newey, Jonathan Wheatley, and Will Courtenay, which fueled narratives of a team in decline.
Despite a late resurgence in 2025 that saw Verstappen come close to snatching the title from McLaren, the start of the 2026 season has been challenging. Red Bull sits fourth in the constructors' championship and has fallen behind in car development. However, Verstappen's commitment until 2030 sends a strong signal that the 28-year-old still believes in the direction Red Bull is heading.

This contract extension also provides long-term stability for the team. With Verstappen staying put, Red Bull can focus on building a competitive car for the new regulations era without the distraction of speculation about their star driver's future. For Mekies, it is proof that his technical plans have earned the trust of his leading driver.
The decision also silences the persistent rumors of a move to McLaren, which many insiders viewed as a negotiating tactic to pressure Red Bull. By committing until 2030, Verstappen ensures his future remains with the team that brought him four world titles, while Red Bull gains certainty to build for the future.
