Liam Lawson Addresses Red Bull F1 Future Amid 2027 Seat Rumors
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Liam Lawson has had a hugely impressive

Despite Liam Lawson delivering his strongest campaign to date in Formula 1, his long-term future with the RB squad remains shrouded in uncertainty. The New Zealander has consistently fought for points, scoring in 12 of the 17 grands prix so far this season, alongside strong points finishes across three separate Sprint races. His standout performances include matching a career-best fifth-place finish on the streets of Monaco and during the Singapore Sprint.

Notwithstanding this undeniable on-track form, paddock whispers suggest that Lawson's seat could be under threat if management opts to fast-track F2 title contender Nikola Tsolov into a race drive. With another young charger heavily favored to retain his seat following an equally impressive rookie campaign, the internal shuffle within the Red Bull talent pool leaves Lawson fighting not just for championship points, but for his very survival on the grid.

Should the Kiwi find himself on the sidelines for the 2027 season, alternative F1 grid openings are practically non-existent, though the driver market is projected to undergo a massive shake-up ahead of 2028. Addressing these looming career crossroads, Lawson opened up about his ultimate ambitions in motorsport and how he evaluates his positioning for future opportunities.

“I don’t know if I have to do anything, but I think, for me personally, I mean, for all of us as drivers, our goal is to win,” Lawson stated, emphasizing the core motivation that drives every elite competitor in the world championship paddock. For him, the ultimate metric of success is aligning himself with a competitive package capable of fighting at the absolute front of the field.

“So for me, my focus is to put myself in a position where I can be winning for one, and if I can go to a team that gives me a better chance to do that, that’s obviously what we’re what we get to do,” he explained, outlining his strategic outlook on career progression within the fiercely competitive motorsport landscape.

Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of his parent company's driver management strategy, Lawson acknowledged that political and strategic decisions within the energy drink giant often transcend standard racing logic. “So the Red Bull specifics of it, I think they’ve shown many times in the past that sometimes that’s not entirely why they make decisions, so it is something that I don’t know what’s going to happen next year, but for me, it’s honestly not really what I’m thinking about now,” he added candidly.

Rather than allowing contract speculation to derail his momentum, the Racing Bulls charger remains firmly anchored in the present. With a successful opening half of the year under his belt, brief stints inside the senior Red Bull setup, and a tight battle for fifth place in the constructors' championship lying ahead, Lawson's blinders are strictly on extracting maximum performance from his machinery.

“I think that’s something that has always been sort of talked about, and obviously you always try to cover your bases. But right now, not too much. It’s not something that I would say I’m thinking about too much,” Lawson noted. “I’ve had a really good first half of the year. Honestly, had a good couple of races at Red Bull, and now we’re going to some good tracks for the rest of the year, and we’re obviously well in the fight for P5, so that’s what I’m focused on.”
