Max Verstappen is actively planning to expand his endurance racing portfolio by setting his sights on the prestigious Spa 24 Hours in the 2027 season. The Formula 1 star revealed his ambitions following an impressive outing at Portimao, where he shared a Team Verstappen Mercedes with Chris Lulham and Ben Barnicoat in the GT World Challenge Europe.
Spa-Francorchamps holds a special place in the heart of the Red Bull Racing driver. Born to a Belgian mother and former kart racer Sophie Kumpen, Verstappen feels a strong emotional tie to the legendary circuit, which he openly describes as his absolute favorite track.
"It’s my favourite track, of course, so I’m trying to make it work," Verstappen stated after the race. "I just need to plan it all well that, of course, when I arrive [I’m] also well prepared."

The primary challenge for the reigning F1 world champion remains aligning his growing GT ambitions with the relentless and demanding Formula 1 calendar. The 2027 Spa 24 Hours is scheduled for June 24-27, falling directly on the weekend between the Portuguese and British Grands Prix, requiring meticulous planning.
According to Motorsport.com, Verstappen's growing appetite for GT racing was further fueled earlier this year when he contested the Nurburgring 24 Hours alongside Dani Juncadella, Lucas Auer, and Jules Gounon. Experiencing team dynamics and sharing a car for the first time has opened up a fresh, highly enjoyable chapter outside of his premier single-seater commitments.
