Lewis Hamilton has expressed growing belief in the direction of the Ferrari project after completing the first 18 months of his journey with the Italian team. Ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion sits third in the drivers’ standings following a major improvement from his debut campaign.
Hamilton arrives at Silverstone Circuit after a run of three consecutive podiums ended at the Austrian Grand Prix. Although he did not return to the podium, his performances across the opening eight rounds have demonstrated significantly stronger consistency than during 2025.
During his first season with Ferrari, Hamilton rarely matched team-mate Charles Leclerc. However, the introduction of new power-unit regulations in 2026 and his involvement in developing the SF-26 have helped the British driver become Ferrari’s leading performance reference during the opening phase of the championship.

Hamilton’s working relationship with new race engineer Carlo Santi has also developed rapidly. Stronger technical coordination has helped Ferrari refine its set-up direction, understand Hamilton’s requirements and maximise the car across different circuit characteristics.
“There’s no magic fix in racing. It’s a lot of small steps, built through months of hard work, commitment and belief from everyone involved,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton believes Ferrari’s progress has not been produced solely by technical changes to the car. He highlighted the team’s working culture, collaboration between departments and continuous effort at Maranello as important reasons for his increased confidence in the project.
“I’m proud of this team and the journey we’re on together. I’ve seen a group of people who are committed, hardworking and really collaborative, and that gives me a lot of confidence,” he said.
Ferrari’s 2026 campaign has not been entirely consistent, but Hamilton’s third position in the standings demonstrates that the competitive foundation of the SF-26 has delivered tangible results. The next challenge is to maintain that level and extract the maximum from every weekend as the contest at the front becomes increasingly close.
The British Grand Prix provides Hamilton with an important opportunity to strengthen that momentum in front of his home support. After 18 months of building his relationship with Ferrari, Silverstone will test whether the team’s improved performance, technical coordination and internal belief can be converted into a major result at one of the defining races of the 2026 season.
