The Formula 1 race weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos delivered immediate drama as Kimi Antonelli dominated the second practice session. The newly-crowned world champion set the benchmark under overcast skies in Sao Paulo, outpacing his main rivals in tricky track conditions.
At the classic 4.3km circuit, the Italian driver posted his quickest lap just past the halfway mark as drivers strapped on Pirelli's soft rubber. Although light rain spots caused fans to reach for their ponchos, persistent showers never materialized, leaving cooler ambient temperatures to shake up tyre management across the grid.
Tyre warm-up issues immediately plagued Lewis Hamilton, who reported struggles in getting the rubber up to optimal operating temperatures. The British driver was among several competitors to suffer front-left wheel lock-ups on the approach to the heavily cambered Turn 1.

Antonelli also battled heavy bottoming on the bumpy Interlagos layout, yet managed to lead the early running effortlessly. Once teams rolled out the soft compound tyres for qualifying simulations, the times tumbled dramatically across the pit lane.
Driving the upgraded McLaren, Lando Norris secured second place, finishing mere milliseconds ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who provided comic relief over team radio regarding his clutch issues.

Ferrari endured a surprisingly quiet start to the weekend, with Hamilton taking sixth and Charles Leclerc finishing seventh after hitting traffic on a flying lap. Meanwhile, home hero Gabriel Bortoleto put in an impressive shift to finish eighth for Audi, capping off an intense Friday of practice.
