Haas Formula 1 Team Principal Ayao Komatsu has finally broken his silence regarding the controversial decision to suddenly drop Esteban Ocon from the team's driver lineup. The drastic move sent shockwaves through the paddock during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, where the French driver was abruptly removed from the cockpit and replaced by Ryo Hirakawa without immediate detailed explanation to the public.
Although exact details of the incident have been kept tightly under wraps by management, Ocon took to social media to firmly deny rumors of a violent altercation between himself and the team principal on Friday in Mexico. However, Haas confirmed ahead of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix that the 30-year-old driver would no longer race for the outfit, casting a shadow over his future career in top-tier motorsport.
This permanent exit paved the way for Rafael Camara to make an unexpected early Formula 1 Grand Prix debut at Interlagos, joining Ollie Bearman who is slated as part of the full-time lineup. Speaking to the media, Komatsu emphasized that the heavy decision was taken purely in the best interest of the squad without any personal bias.

"I can't go into any details but that's of course not how we planned it," Komatsu told Sky Sports F1. "This was not what I expected when I signed him for last year's drive. It's a lot of sadness but I honestly felt that was the only decision I could make, professionally, as a team principal of this team. Totally professional decision, nothing else."
The team boss further explained that his primary responsibility as a leader is ensuring internal stability remains intact amid fierce competitive pressures. He admitted that while the process was far from easy, he maintained absolute clarity regarding the necessary steps to safeguard the organization.
"At the end of the day I am the team principal and every decision I make is what do I need to do for the best interest of this team?" he stated. "In that sense it gives me clarity, I had clarity of what I needed to do. I have to make a decision purely based on professionalism. Every time I go back to that. Of course it is not easy but at least I am comfortable in myself."
Komatsu also reflected on the nearly two years of working relationship shared with Ocon, noting it provided valuable lessons in team management. When faced with the difficult task of delivering the news to mechanics and engineers in the garage on Saturday morning, he praised the crew for their swift adaptation and high morale.
"On Saturday morning when I had to tell the boys and girls here that Esteban is not driving any more, everyone was surprised but I could not go into any details," Komatsu concluded. "Normally I would want to be as transparent as possible but on this one I cannot. I said all I ask is give Ryo everything. But again it's just brilliant, they got on with it, and the team is in a good place."
