The legendary McRae name has once again been immortalized on a road-going hatchback with the official launch of the Skoda Fabia McRae Edition at Simpsons Skoda. This exclusive model follows a rich tradition of special edition cars previously dedicated to motorsport icons such as Sebastien Loeb, Carlos Sainz, and Sebastien Ogier to celebrate their rallying prowess.
The inspiration behind this special road car stems from Max McRae and his stellar campaign in the British Rally Championship. Although the young Scottish driver narrowly missed out on the British title by a razor-thin 1.2-second margin during the final round in Wales last month, his unmatched speed and highest number of fastest stage times cemented his status as a rising star.
Limited to just 10 units based on the Fabia 130, the McRae Edition comes loaded with distinctive livery, custom badging, a serialized plaque, upgraded alloy wheels, a signed certificate, and a personalized vehicle handover directly from Max himself. Buyers also have the unique option to receive driving lessons directly from the rally star.
"It is a really cool thing to do," said Max McRae. "We are fortunate to have a great relationship with Neil and everybody at Simpsons Skoda and this is another demonstration of that. Even without the livery, this Fabia 130 is an awesome car – but it definitely looks sweet as the McRae Edition!"
Underneath the aggressive exterior, the car is priced at £30,990 and pushes out close to 180 horsepower alongside 250 Nm of torque. It sits on 18-inch wheels with a lowered ride height by 15 millimeters and utilizes a revised seven-speed DSG gearbox featuring optimized shift points and sharper downshift responses tailored for spirited driving.
Neil Simpson added, "We had the opportunity to come onboard with Max at the start of the season and we jumped at it. He has driven so well this year and his pace across that final loop of the year in Wales was just sensational. This will probably be the most powerful Fabia road car ever made and having Max with us and the McRae name on the car really symbolises the relationship and partnership."
