The racing weekend at the Lusail International Circuit immediately delivered high drama as Jorge Martin staged a dramatic turnaround during Friday's practice sessions. After struggling heavily and being forced to end his sessions early in Sepang due to severe wrist issues, the star rider for Aprilia Racing proved his resilience by securing seventh place on the combined timesheets. This solid performance serves as a massive morale boost in his crucial mission to fend off his main rival in the championship standings.
This achievement stood in stark contrast to the previous weekend in Malaysia, where he completely lacked wrist strength due to a fractured radius sustained in a crash at Phillip Island. At Lusail, the Spanish contender managed to complete 19 laps, coming very close to a full Grand Prix race distance. His best lap put him roughly six tenths of a second behind the pacesetter, Fabio Di Giannantonio, while finishing within touching distance of his own stablemate.
Speaking to media outlets after the session, he emphasized the tremendous relief of being back on pace without insurmountable physical limitations. "I am very proud of my job today, I wish I had this feeling in Malaysia honestly, because I'm able to race," Martin shared in an interview with TNT Sports, reflecting a renewed sense of confidence.

He further explained that the primary hurdle at this stage is rebuilding his bike connection rather than merely fighting physical pain. The sheer rush of adrenaline while pushing on track helps mask the underlying discomfort from his healing arm. "For sure I'm not fully recovered, but I feel much better. I can make laps together, I can be competitive," he added, highlighting his determination to fight through the weekend.
Nevertheless, careful technical evaluation remains underway with his crew as sector one continues to expose minor weaknesses, particularly during rapid direction changes and extreme right-hand cornering angles. Despite these lingering physical restrictions, he approaches the remainder of the weekend with high optimism as he aims to secure the necessary points to delay the championship celebrations.
