Joan Mir is officially set to make his long-awaited return to the handlebars of the RC213V this weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix, ending a 44-day absence caused by undisclosed health issues.
The factory Honda rider has been sidelined since September 13, when he was forced to retire on just the fifth lap of the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano due to a severe lack of strength and energy. Subsequent medical tests ordered by MotoGP medical director Dr Angel Charte revealed altered blood parameters, forcing the rider into a mandatory period of absolute rest and rehabilitation therapy.
Reflecting on the challenging weeks, Mir admits in a pre-event team statement: "It has not been an easy period. I want to thank all the people close to me for helping me stay focused and continue working towards the final goal. Over the last week I have been able to ride different types of bikes, and the doctors have given me the green light to return."

Although the exact medical root cause behind his prolonged absence remains strictly under wraps, the Spaniard has successfully completed training sessions on dirt bikes to prove his fitness ahead of the Sepang weekend. With a future move to Ducati machinery with Gresini looming for next season, Mir is adopting a cautious approach for his comeback.
"I am really looking forward to reuniting with the team and seeing what we can achieve in these last races of the year," Mir added. "The most important thing this weekend is to get back on the bike, reconnect with the team and check how I feel."
