The long-awaited news is finally official: Jack Miller will leave MotoGP and join the factory Yamaha team in WorldSBK for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. The confirmation comes after the Australian rider lost his MotoGP seat at Pramac, which will be filled by rookie Izan Guevara.
Miller will take the place left by Xavi Vierge at the Pata Yamaha team. "I'm really happy to announce that I'll be moving to WorldSBK with Yamaha, extending our partnership," Miller said. "I've really enjoyed working with this brand over the last few years in MotoGP, and I'm really grateful for this opportunity to see what we can do with the R1. I've had a little taste of the bike at Suzuka in recent years, and although the WorldSBK spec is a bit different, I'm really looking forward to this new chapter in my career. Hopefully we can do some great things there."
This move marks the end of Miller's long journey in MotoGP, filled with ups and downs. However, for fans, it's not a complete farewell; Miller will still compete at world level, just on a different machine. Yamaha clearly sees great potential in Miller to make the R1 competitive in the increasingly fierce WorldSBK arena.
For Miller, this is a chance to start fresh with a manufacturer he knows well. After years of wrestling with MotoGP bikes, the challenge of riding the R1 in WorldSBK spec will be an interesting test. Can he be competitive right away? His experience and aggressive riding style might just fit the R1's character.
On the other side, this move also opens the door for young riders like Izan Guevara to step up to MotoGP. With the seat vacated by Miller, Pramac believes Guevara is ready to show his teeth in the premier class.
