Inside McLaren Major Upgrades and Practice Pace in Brazil

The race weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos kicked off with an encouraging display from Lando Norris, who set the benchmark pace during the opening practice session. Amidst one of the most turbulent world championship battles in recent memory, the British driver gave a cautious thumbs-up to the latest batch of aerodynamic updates brought by his team to Brazil.

This massive upgrade package has been meticulously engineered to tame the unruly characteristics of the MCL40, a car that demands absolute commitment and immense effort from its drivers to extract a fast lap. Throughout the current campaign, handling unpredictability has severely hampered the team's consistency, forcing both drivers to wrestle the machinery through various corner phases just to secure competitive grid positions.

During the first practice session, Lando Norris managed to edge out Mercedes rival Kimi Antonelli by a narrow margin of 0.082 seconds. Although he admitted that the subsequent long runs proved slightly more challenging against the silver arrows' race pace, the overall feeling regarding the technical direction remained largely positive.

"Certainly FP1 was a little bit of a surprise, a pleasant surprise," Lando Norris stated when reviewing his Friday performance on track. He noted that the new components appear to deliver precisely the behavior and stability that the engineering department had hoped for after testing split configurations previously.

Team principal Andrea Stella previously emphasized that this comprehensive update features a redesigned front-suspension geometry, revised diffuser elements, and a completely reworked front wing assembly aimed at improving predictability under braking while raising the overall performance ceiling before design resources pivot toward future regulations.
