Lewis Hamilton has emphasised that transforming Ferrari into a title-winning force again is a long-term process. The seven-time world champion believes it cannot happen overnight due to the team's deep-rooted history and culture.
Since joining in 2025, Hamilton initially struggled to adapt to Ferrari's unique culture, noting differences from Mercedes in operational aspects and even the language used within the team.
However, 2026 has seen a shift. Hamilton praised the team's improved communication and their willingness to adjust to his requests and suggestions. "I think it's a longer-term process. It's something we can't just change this weekend. There's a huge amount of moving parts," he told the media, including Motorsport Week.
Hamilton acknowledged Ferrari's entrenched internal structure, saying, "There are a lot of people. There's a culture that's been there for a long, long time. Moving big pieces isn't easy." The first step, he noted, is internal acknowledgement of areas that need change, which he says the team has done willingly.
"We just take it one step at a time. It starts with discussing it. It starts with the acknowledgement, which we have internally. Then it just comes to working out solutions together," he explained. With a cautious approach, he knows major changes will take time.
Hamilton also stressed that trial and error is part of the process. "It just doesn't happen overnight. We'll probably try things, and it still won't be good. But we'll eventually get to the point where we need it," he said.
Ferrari have not won a championship in 18 years. With a willingness to change and Hamilton's experience of consistent success at Mercedes, there's no reason the Prancing Horses can't return to the top. But as Hamilton says, it will take time and patience.
