Heavy rain hitting the Gold Coast has presented a massive hurdle for drivers competing in the opening round of the Finals. The Surfers Paradise street circuit has been drenched since Thursday, adding an extra layer of jeopardy to an already hazardous event designed to trim the 10 title contenders down to just seven.
The deteriorating weather prompted sharp remarks from Brodie Kostecki, who effectively crashed out of championship contention at the venue last year. He noted that bouncing off kerbs and landing millimeters away from concrete walls is already mentally draining, meaning heavy rain will elevate the challenge significantly and demand intense focus to survive without major mistakes.
Meanwhile, Will Brown—sitting third in the standings after the pre-Finals points reset—plans to stay on the attack despite only needing steady finishes to advance safely. He acknowledges that competitors like Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert, currently sitting outside the cut-off zone, will take aggressive risks and hunt for wet-weather victories.

Adding to the tension, veteran driver David Reynolds recalled the abandoned Sunday race from 2018, warning that the venue lacks proper drainage and turns exceptionally dangerous in the wet due to slippery kerbs and painted line markings.
With wet conditions forecasted to persist all weekend, the remaining contenders face a razor-thin margin between calculated aggression and catastrophic elimination.
