Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has officially shut down persistent rumours suggesting he is preparing to make a surprise return to the grueling Dakar Rally in 2027. Intense speculation had surrounded the Spaniard's future plans in recent weeks, with various reports claiming he had agreed to contest the legendary off-road event next year.
The chatter initially surfaced following cryptic remarks made by Fernando Alonso during race weekends, where he teased potential surprises on the horizon. Having previously competed in the Dakar Rally with Toyota back in 2020 during his grand prix sabbatical, many fans and pundits anticipated another dramatic switch to cross-country rallying.
However, speaking ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix after confirming his retention in Formula 1 for at least one more season, Fernando Alonso thoroughly dismissed the possibility of a Dakar comeback. "I read those rumours, but no, I don't think it's possible. Physically, it's nearly impossible to fit two demanding programs like a Formula 1 Championship and Dakar," Fernando Alonso stated.

The veteran driver also ruled out a move into GT3 racing for the upcoming year, highlighting the immense dedication required for such a transition. He emphasized that tackling different disciplines demands extensive preparation, unwavering determination, and a significant amount of luck rather than just relying on past successes in single-seaters.
Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack was also pressed on the matter in the paddock, acknowledging that while he admires drivers pursuing diverse motorsport challenges, he could not confirm any definitive extracurricular plans for Fernando Alonso next season.
